Nicely carved scroll and accurately inlaid purfling. This violin is an outstanding antique instrument with a wonderful sound that is superior to many other violins from that time. It was completely worked over in our workshop. It shows former repairs, but no open cracks or open seams, and surely some minor marks in it´s old amber varnish due to its age. The table is medium to fine grained spruce and the 1-piece back, as well as ribs and neck, is nicely flamed maple. It received new set up with refitted ebony pegs, an elder ebony chinrest and ebony tailpiece, a refitted bridge and new strings. These are new silver wound steel core strings, which have a good projection and allow quick finger action. We use these strings on mostly all of our violins, to allow a comparison of the tonality of each instrument in the videos. We would recommend higher quality strings like Pirastro Eudoxa or Gold, Warchal Brillant, Larsen etc. to enhance the full character of this violin!

This violin from the famous Hopf ateliers in Klingenthal, Saxony, is an outstanding antique instrument with a wonderful sound that is superior to many other violins sharing the same provenance. The unmistakeable model with the well-known HOPF stamp on the back features the typical "angular" contours, opulently executed edges and a light brown varnish over a light ground. The scroll is full of character and clearly inspired by italian patterns, the purfling is crafted with great care by an experienced violin maker. Remarkable is the asymmetric construction: the lower block and center of the lower ribs are moved slightly to the right, which  gives more volume to the bass side and more projection impact onto the treble side. The ebony fingerboard was renewed and wedged onto the old baroque neck. It was completely worked over by our luthier, who applied a new ebony setup, and is offered in immediate playing condition, unfolding its exceptionally beautiful, mature sound full of warmth and light facettes, sophisticated and colorful, precise and strong. This beautiful violin shows no open cracks or open seams, and surely some minor marks in it´s old amber varnish due to its age. The table is very fine grained spruce and the 1-piece back, as well as ribs and neck, is nicely flamed maple. The violin received new ebony pegs, new ebony chinrest, new ebony tailpiece, new bridge and new strings. These are new silver wound steel core strings, which we use these strings on mostly all of our violins, to allow a comparison of the tonality of each instrument in the videos. We would recommend higher quality strings to increase the full sound of this violin!
