The fine purfling extends well into the corners and is the clear work of a talented and experienced violin maker, who chose exquisite tonewoods and decorated them with a traditional, tastefully applied honey colored varnish over a golden ground. The warm, bright sound is well balanced and unfolds with good volume and clarity, typical for antique violins with good musical qualities. This beautiful violin shows no open cracks or open seams. The table is finely grained spruce and the 2-piece back, as well as ribs and neck, is nicely flamed maple. The lower rip is from 1 piece only, as typical for Mittenwald violins. It was carefully worked over in our workshop, where it received new ebony pegs, new ebony tailpiece, new ebony chinrest, a new bridge and new strings.

Presumably German around late 1800s. Finely carved scroll in shape of a lion's head and accurately inlaid purfling. This beautiful violin shows no open cracks or open seams, but surely some marks due to its age in it´s old dark amber varnish. The table is medium fine grained spruce and the 2-piece back - as well as ribs and neck - is maple. The back is nicely decorated with double purfling which turns out into ornaments. The violin has been fully restored by our luthier and checked by our violin player on playability. It received new ebony pegs, ebony tailpiece, new ebony chinrest, a new bridge and new Dominant strings.

Nicely crafted instrument, with masterly carved scroll and accurately inlaid purfling. Mother of pearl inlays. There're no cracks or open seams, and naturally some marks in it´s old amber varnish. The table is finely grained spruce and the back, as well as ribs and neck, is nicely flamed maple.

This very rare violin has the soundholes in the ribs (5 on each side), and has a 5th sympathetic string under the fingerboard tuned in C.
Julius Zoller violins were complete novelty in body shape and design: circular lower bout, and followed by a rectangular top with rounded top corners, arching almost no groove, no sound holes in the table, but in the ribs on both sides of each 5 elongated openings (approximately 5x25 mm), rather than a purfling there's an insert flat heel, the saddle is only loosely attached to the table. The 5 pegs are thin metal shafts with plastic handles; flexible bridge with 4 feet attached to the table. Table and back are 1-piece maple. Remarkable is also, that the violin has 2 soundposts. Very rare collector's instrument - there are only 2 Julius Zoller violins left shown in public: Berlin Musical Instrument Museum and Museum of old and rare instruments of Leipzig University.

This instrument was revised and repaired by our luthier, therefor we managed to arrange an original construction plan by Julius Zoller.

The table is medium to fine grained spruce and the back, as well as ribs and neck, is nicely flamed maple. Pegs, fingerboard, tailpiece and chinrest are ebony. The instrument has been completely restored by our luthier and checked by our violin player on playability.
